35 miles of backpacking for cinnamon rolls
Strong center of Balance |
Brandon and I have spent every Fourth of July making the most of our extended time off in the mountains. This year we decided to hike into Stehekin - a backpacking trip purely designed around visiting a bakery.
July 2nd - 3.5 Miles, one bota box of wine and chocolate
We got off work super late and ate a bunch of food at the trailhead. We hauled the mail, covering about three and a half miles in an hour to reach our campsite just before dark. We learned that our tent is a $400 pack and play. Annabelle loved toddling all over it, crashing into sides, body slamming on the thermarests, and thrashing our belongings all around. I had no idea you could anything in a 36 square foot area- but Annabelle pulled it off.
July 3rd -10 miles, some Jameson and more chocolate
Despite an early wake up call from Annabelle at 5 am. we weren't moving until 7 am. The trail was covered in downed logs and had a lot of stream crossings. Luckily, Brandon has a good center of balance and confidently carried our hitchhiker with no problems. We hiked over McAlester pass which was incredibly beautiful and snow free. We didn't linger because of the bugs.

July 4th- 10 miles, baked goods and cold water
Is it really the Fourth of July if you don't drink beer or blow anything up? We did make it to the Bakery and ate with reckless abandon.. Stehekin was melting hot- we spent the day in the shade and swimming in the lake in the freezing cold water. Before heading back to camp we hit the bakery for a second round of eating.

Day Four- 13 miles to the car and a bag of potato chips
On the last day we hiked back to the car-motivated that we were out of bakery goods and running low on trail snacks. We had one "backcountry blowout" just as we reached the trailhead. I'd say that was successful.

Awesome! I love how you've incorporated Annabelle into your adventures rather than just stopping adventuring. :)
