Its about time

Brandon's been working as an engineer at Paccar for over ten years and decided it was time to shake his life's etch n' sketch up. It's official, he resigned mid-August and every day is a Friday for him now, except the weekends which are still the weekends and Wednesdays which we have dubbed as weekend Wednesdays. His new calendar looks something like this.

You can take the engineer out of corporate life, but you can't take the engineer out of the man. He's been enjoying solving his own problems and creating new problems when there are no problems to solve. I had no idea there were so many problems, but Brandon hasn't been bored.

Being the creative builder he is -he bought a bunch of wood and is building a 16 foot boat. Why 16 feet? Because our garage is 17 feet long. Annabelle has been an accomplished assistant and has excelled at moving and hiding his tools around the garage and suggesting side building projects like building her "Hop Hop" a new wooden toilet. She's also enjoying spreading the garage trash around the garage and building castles out of wood chips. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I'm going to go check on Daddy-O in the garage to make sure he's not in trouble" - I could probably quit my job too. I've been taking time off on Wednesdays to go on weekday weekend  adventures with the family. We've hiked Goat and Excelsior Mountain and have done some beach BBQ bumming. Our siege on Goat mountain was exciting because we have had three previous failed winter attempts. Apparently a summer trip up with a toddler in tote was all it took to make it to the top. 

We both decided to get into better running shape and are marathon training. Annabelle has been a motivating team player- she now straps herself into the stroller and tells us "I'm helping you get exercise. Get me fish crackers". We've been going through a lot of shoes and eating a lot.

Life is good. We're all happy to have "Daddy-O" around more and the team's happy to have more free time hours.

A volcanic summer vacation

It's July so we planned the first summer adventure for everyone.  Annabelle was stoked to stay at her grandparent's house in Bremerton- where she could be doted upon for a week. Leading up to the trip she danced about the house chattering" I want you to take me to Papa and Mimi's house and leave and come back in 100 minute. No 100 days. No 100 years!!! Actually,  Ma Ma, I don't want you to ever come back". The standard four year old has more emotions in 10 minutes than a standard adult does all year long. The night we left for the trip she she ripped our souls out like a grapefruit spoon does to a grapefruit wedge- crying and clinging " I don't want you to leave". After much consoling and book reading we were able to leave and she was asleep.  In our eyes, Annabelle is a total bad ass - three foot tall trooper who is down for any type of outdoor adventure. potato vacation in Hawaii !?!

Is a bear catholic? Does the pope shit in the woods?! Heck yeah I'll go to Hawaii for a work trip.  Brandon and Annabelle joined me on the trip, excited for an adventure and for pineapples.  For two weeks  I was sent out to a oily red field covered in weeds during crappy weather while Brandon was killing it being a dad. The hotel pool was a three foot deep oasis for small kids - complete with an artificial waterfall and rock structure to jump off of. Brandon spent so much time in the pool his balls were soon saturated like two water logged raisins.  Annabelle learned how to swim so well she soon equaled Michael Phelps- but like Michael Phelps in little red ladybug lifejacket.  They took her swimming skills into the wild and Brandon soon had her swimming to shore from the paddle board and ocean snorkeling.  She was very excited about snorkeling,  Annabelle instructed " you put your breather in your mouth then go under water and look for stuff like fish ...

Annabelle's first self hiked backpacking trip

 Annabelle started backpacking when she was just weeks old. She's proven herself to be fierce and continues to amaze us with her spirt for outdoor adventures. Wanting to do everything herself we decided she was ready to go backpacking, this time hiking the whole way and carrying her "gear" by herself. We picked the shortest hike within a hours drive that allows overnight camping- Cedar Lake an exotic enchanting hike in the Chuckanut mountain foothills.  Annabelle's gear  Annabelle is capable of charging through the whole day and avoids naps the same way most people avoid work.  She fell asleep on the car ride  and we thought "this is great-she'll be all charged up for this hike" .  As we reached our trailhead, Annabelle woke up too early and ugly cried for half a hour non stop.
